An intensive course hosted by UiT The Arctic University of Norway
UiT The Arctic University of Norway's Centre for Peace Studies launched the Model NATO course in 2022, and it has since evolved into a dynamic and impactful educational initiative. Designed as a 5 ECTS Master's course, it uniquely blends academic instruction and practical experience, fusing expert lectures with an intensive crisis simulation modeled on NATO's decision-making. The course equips students with the analytical tools and strategic insights needed to navigate pressing security issues facing the Alliance and the wider international community.
From its inception, the course has drawn students from not only UiT but also a diverse range of European partner institutes. The inaugural edition in 2022 brought together students from UiT, the University of Iceland, the University of the Basque Country, and Tampere University, while the second edition in 2024 included students from UiT, Umeå University, and the University of Lapland.
Looking ahead, in 2025, the course will take place from September 15 to 19 in Tromsø. This upcoming session will welcome students from UiT, Umeå University, University of Lapland, University of Iceland, and University of Southern Denmark, continuing the program’s commitment to fostering cross-border academic cooperation and strategic thinking among the next generation of transatlantic leaders.
